Presentation of Icon to St Columbkille’s School
On Thursday 3rd May 2018, at the 10am Mass which was attended by pupils from St Columbkille’s Primary School, the parish presented the school with an icon of Jesus the Teacher which had been commissioned to mark the centenary of the 1918 Education (Scotland) Act.
Fr Stephen Reilly spoke to the children about how all the human figures in the icon were looking up to Jesus and he encouraged them to look up to him for guidance and wise counsel in their lives. At the end of Mass, parishioner Michael McGrath told pupils about how the presentation of the icon showed the strong links which had always existed between the parish and the school since both were established in the parish grounds in 1851.
Fr Pat and Fr Stephen can be seen in this photograph presenting the icon to Head Teacher Mr Gray and two young pupils.
