SCIAF's Birthplace
SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund) is the official relief and development agency of the Catholic Church in Scotland. It was conceived and born in 1965, in a classroom in St Columbkille’s School, now the Parish Hall. From its modest origins in Rutherglen, SCIAF has gone on to change the lives of countless people across the world.
SSVP (or the St Vincent de Paul Society, as it is often known) is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need – irrespective of ideology, faith, ethnicity, age or gender.
Foodbank
We are most grateful to parishioners for their donations to our Food Bank which is run by or SSVP on Saturday mornings to provide foodstuffs to needy families. We are delighted to accept donations of tinned soup, meat, fish, vegetables and pasta sauce as well as packets of pasta, cereal etc. Bags can be left in the church before Mass each day.Â
We also appreciate donations of cash which is required to purchase sufficient food items to meet needs. (Please look for volunteer collectors as you leave Sunday Mass.)
Welfare Clinic
Our Welfare Clinic is provided in the Parish Hall on the first Saturday of the month from 10am to 12 Noon. You can obtain advice on your rights to access welfare support. Outwith these times, you can email welfare.stcolumbkilles@gmail.com
Bereavement Support
A small number of trained parishioners (not Counsellors) are available to listen to anyone who is grieving following a bereavement. We are available to meet in the Parish Hall each month.
